Highmoor week commencing 21st June

Date: 22nd Jun 2021 @ 6:57pm

Welcome to another week in Highmoor!

We've had a very busy week doing various assessments in maths and reading.

On Tuesday we had our class trip to The Earthtrust near Wittenham Clumps. The morning started with a walk around the local area learning about the landscape and people of the Iron Age and how the Romans affected them. We spotted the Roman town of Dorchester from the top of a hill and could see the reasons why the Romans built there. We loooked at a hillfort and took turns being the Romans attacking up the ditches and ramparts and being the Celts defending. This was such fun! In the afternoon we all had a go at lighting a fire and preparing and cooking Roman bread over it. The children were all beautifully behaved and extremely excited to be on a trip again!

We had our very own mini Olympic in PE run by the children in Springwood. It was a great event and we all enjoyed taking part.

This week in Literacy, we have come to the end of our topic of ‘Stories from other Cultures’. The children have written their own Ananse story, drawing on all they have learnt about the trickster spider.

In Computing we are coming to the end of our ‘Extreme Weather’ topic. The children have made a table on Google Sheets to record weather forecasts from different on-line sources. They will then use these to record their own weather forecast.

In geography we looked at how the climate changes in different parts of the world.

Spellings and Sumdog are set and please don't forget to read every day and practise your times tables.

Have a great weekend everyone!
