Highmoor week commencing 23rd April

Date: 26th Apr 2019 @ 3:58pm

Welcome back to school. We hope you all had a lovely Easter.

We started our summer term with a maths lesson. The year 3s were doubling and halving numbers and the year 4s were using the grid method to multiply 3 digit numbers by a 1 digit number, some of them moved on to compact multiplication. The year 3s then focussed on finding unit and not unit fractions of amounts. Year 4s have been learning a written division method which they decided to call the chunky bus stop method!

In literacy we started by writing a recount of our holiday. We also read about unusual fashion through the ages and wrote structured information paragraphs to summarise our findings. We have been trying to edit our work to check for spelling and punctuation mistakes, make sure it makes sense and think about how we can improve it.

This term on Wednesdays we are going to Peppard War Memorial Hall for gymnastics. This week we were learning to jump and land correctly and move like a river to music with different tempos. We got into small groups to choreograph and perform our own river sequences.

In DT we are learning how to sew. This week we practised running stitch and back stitch.

In RE we discussed what it means to treat others as you would like to be treated and read the story of The Good Samaritan. We discussed how people from all races, religions and cultures are our "neighbours" and represented it in a circle.

Our week ended with science. We are continuing to look at Living Things and this week we found out all about the wild plant groups growing in our local area and then designed our own key to present the information.
