Highmoor week commencing 24th February
Date: 27th Feb 2020 @ 4:55pm
This week in literacy the children started by using their knowledge of speech punctuation to bring to life to some of the scenes from the Bayeux Tapestry. They also wrote diary entries as if they were a page, squire or knight and looked at some reading comprehension about daily life in a castle. They finished the week by using all their knowledge of Greece to persuade people to go there on holiday. The children used all the features of persuasive writing they have been learning including strong adjectives, bossy verbs, rhetorical questions and exaggeration.
In maths we looked at place value and related multiplication and division facts. The year 3s were multiplying and dividing by 10 and 100. The year 4s were doing the same but moved on using multiples of 10 and then looked at adding and subtracting tenths. The week ended with using times tables facts to solve division problems with remainders and word problems.
We started our new science topic "How did that blossom become an apple?" by planting some seeds which we are hoping to use in our investigations once they start to shoot.
In DT we continued to construct our castles using cutting and joining techniques, carefully following our plans. They are looking great and are nearly finished.
In PSHE this half term we are learning about healthy lifestyles in our "Think Positive" topic. We started by thinking about the benefits of having a positive mental attitude.
On Thursday some of us took part in a football tournament. It was lots of fun and as ever we showed excellent sportsmanship.
Homework this week is to log on to activelearn and complete the games allocated. The games are based around our times tables we were learning in our maths lessons. Don't forget World Book Day next week - children are to come to school dressed as character from a traditional tale.
Have a great weekend everyone.
