Highmoor week commencing 25th February

Date: 27th Feb 2019 @ 12:45pm

Welcome back to school everyone! We hope you all had a lovely half term.

Our first week back to school has been busy, starting on Monday with an Athletics competition at Gillotts. Everyone took part in various races and events such as relay, long jump, obstacle course and javelin. All the children were so well behaved and displayed a real spirit of teamwork.

In maths this week the year 3s have been multiplying and dividing by 10 and 100. We learned how to use place value to help with multiplying and dividing. Year 4s were multiplying and dividing by multiples of 10 and 100. We moved on to looking at adding and subtracting 0·1 and 1 to/from numbers with one decimal place. Finally we finished the week by looking at negative numbers.

In Literacy we have started to look at non fiction texts to answer our big question - Did the Shang Dynasty really exist? We explored glossaries and indexes this week. We have also been recapping punctuation for speech and apostrophes during Literacy.

We started our new science topic - Living Things. We discovered that there are 7 life processes that every living thing does. We learnt the anacronym MRS NERG to help us remember them - movement, respiration, sensitivity, nutrition, excretion, reproduction and growth.
