Highmoor week commencing 26th April

Date: 30th Apr 2021 @ 9:26am

Welcome to another week in Highmoor.

In maths this week the year 4s have been working with money solving tricky multi step problems involving addition and subtraction. Year 3s are continuing with fractions and have been looking at tenths and placing fractions on a number line.

In literacy we have continued to study the myth of Romulus and Remus and the founding of Rome. We wrote dialogue between the brothers taking care to punctuate it correctly and started to write part of the story using fronted adverbials and complex sentences and lots of description. With Mrs Smith we have continued to learn about how children live in different countries in Africa. We have learnt about compound and complex sentences and have incorporated them into our writing – by describing part of our day and retelling an African riddle.

We had lots of fun in art painting our Roman shields. We used our designs from last week and translated our ideas into reality. The results are great.

This week, in Computing, we have learnt how to use Google Sheets. We have created a table and inputted and sorted our weather data from last week.

In Science we started our new topic of The Digestive System. We started by thinking about the different types of food animals and humans eat and created food chains with producers and consumers to demonstrate this.

You will have seen that your child has a green book with their spellings in. With the covid situation improved we have decided that it is OK to have this book moving between home and school. We are using them as a way of recording spelling tests, giving out new spellings and letting you know how your child did on times tables tests. We are really pleased that we can start using this form of communication again and hope it helps you as parents feel more in touch.

Homework is times tables on Sumdog and spellings which can be found on the school website, in the green books and on EdShed!

Have a great weekend!
