Highmoor week commencing 29th Novemeber

Date: 2nd Dec 2021 @ 8:03pm

Welcome to another week in Highmoor.

It's beginning to feel a lot like Christmas! We started our week by looking at tricky vocabulary featured in the poem 'Twas The Night Before Christmas. The poem is nearly 200 years old so there were quite a lot of words that we weren't familiar with. We then spent a while reading the poem and making sure we undertsood it. We finished writing our reports about Prehistoric Britain and were very proud of what we achieved. We all managed to include the features we have been studying - subheadings, paragraphs, pictures with captions and labels, fact boxes, rhetorical questions and lots of sentences with conjunctions.

With Mrs Griffith we worked on improving our writing by working together as a class to change a simple sentence into a more interesting and extended sentence by adding capital letters, punctuation, adjectives, adverbs, fronted adverials and powerful verbs! Phew! We are also starting to write our final version of a new opening to the story of Iron Man.

In maths we worked hard at column subtraction, year 4s were solving tricky problems and using the inverse operation to check answers. Year 3 have perfected the method and some of us moved on to solving word problems. We also started looking at fractions and fractions of amounts with Mrs Griffith.

In PSHE we thought about how to resolve disputes within our teams. We discussed lots of different ways to deal with arguments, disagreements or mean behaviour. We thought that putting ourselves in someone else's shoes is always a good place to start.

We put some Christmas tunes on and made decorations for our tree usingnets of 3D shapes. Unfortunately when we came to put the tree up we realised that 2 pieces of the stand were missing! We are eagerly awaiting the arrival of a new tree on Monday and are looking forward to our classroom looking like Christmas has arrived!

Please don't forget to do homework - Sumdog and reading.

Have a great weekend everyone.
