Highmoor week commencing 3rd June

Date: 6th Jun 2019 @ 2:26pm

Our week in Highmoor got off to a great start with our trip to the Earth Trust for a Roman day. It was a really fun day with lots of hands on learning taking place. We went for a long walk through the countryside learning lots about the Romans in Britain along the way. We saw a Roman road, found out how they invaded England, learnt how they used nettles, invaded a hill fort and lots more! In the afternoon we got to make Roman bread and cooked it over a campfire. We made our own paint by crushing chalk and adding pigment, we then used our paint to decorate wooden signs (which we had sawn off from large branches ourselves!) with symbols of our chosen Gods. We also leant a shield formation which helped the Romans in battle and had lots of fun attacking our classmates!

We have also been working hard doing assessments in literacy and maths and recapping times tables. In art and DT we have continued with our sewing which we are finding really relaxing!

On Thursday lots of us took part in the Quadkids athletics competition at Sonning Common Primary School. It was a great morning and everyone tried their best. Everyone had 4 activities to complete - throwing, jumping, sprint and distance running.

We have started to put together our ideas for the next church service and will continue to work on these next week.

We have started to learn our songs for this year's summer performance at the Kenton. This year Highmoor class will all be pirates. The year 3s and 4s have separate songs to learn.

Don't forget Monday next week is an INSET day!
