Highmoor week commencing 4th October

Date: 8th Oct 2021 @ 11:05am

Welcome to another week in Highmoor!

We had lots of fun with clay in our art lesson on Wednesday. We made replicas of Neolithic grooved ware pots. It was really tricky trying to get our pots to hold their shape! We pinched the clay to form the sides then smoothed them over and decorated them with zig zag patterns. We also made some replicas of animal teeth and bones that we will string on to a necklace to make Stone Age jewellery.

We have been watching lots of the Henley Literary Festival from our classroom. It has been great fun listening to different authors and hearing about how they gain inspiration for their stories, their path to becoming an author and having a go at drawing along with them.

In maths we finished our place value topic by solving more difficult word problems and the year 4s learnt about Roman numerals. We started our next topic of addition by looking at column addition. Some of us were using place value counters on a place value grid to help us and we all took care to write out the calculations correctly in our maths books.

We looked at Bronze Age grave goods in history and thought about what they tell us about the person they were buried with and society at the time. We enjoyed researching the Amesbury Archer online and thinking about all the different objects he had buried with.

It is our trip to Hill End on Monday. Please can children bring a packed lunch, waterproof coat and sturdy outdoor shoes or wellies. We would like to leave as early as possible so please can children be in school by 8.45.

Homework is times tables on Sumdog and has been running since Monday and will finish on Sunday evening. Please ensure your children complete this, times tables are so important for maths and being confident with them has a huge impact. Reading is also expected to be done every day at home. Please record this in children’s Home School Diaries. Many thanks for your support with this.

Have a lovely weekend all.
