Highmoor week commencing 4th September

Date: 6th Sep 2019 @ 11:32am

Welcome back to school everyone and welcome to Highmoor Class! We hope you all had a lovely summer.

The children have all settled back into school life well. The year 4s are enjoying showing the year 3s how things work in our class and the year 3s are excited by being in a new classroom with new friends and teachers.

In our first artwork of the year we tried to make our hands disappear! First we drew a frame for our work making sure to make careful lines using our rulers. Next we drew around our hand and arm within the frame. We then drew six more lines across the hand image thereby making random shapes across the image. Now the challenge was to ignore the initial hand shape and just focus on the shapes we had created and colour them in carefully considering along the way how we used colours effectively to enhance the abstract pattern that emerged.

We had our first French lesson with Madame Sauvage which was great fun.

In maths we have been thinking about place value. The year 3s were placing numbers on empty number lines up to 1000 and year 4s were thinking about place value in 4 digit numbers when adding.

We have written recounts of our summer holidays and then edited them thinking about how we can improve on the spelling, grammar, punctuation and language used.

Just for clarification PE is on Monday and Friday. On these days children can come into school in their PE kit and school shoes. Trainers should be in school every day for the children to change into for outdoor play.

Spellings are given out every Tuesday and tested the following Monday. Homework will be given out on Thursdays and is expected back in by Tuesday. This is a change from last year. Times tables are tested weekly during our ERIC session, the day of testing will vary depending on which ERIC group your child is in.

Finally, please feel free to come and talk to us about any concerns you may have. We realise it is a big step going from key stage 1 to 2. Our door is always open and you are always welcome no matter how big or small the issue is you want to discuss.

Have a great weekend!
