Highmoor week commencing 5th October

Date: 9th Oct 2020 @ 3:41pm

This week in maths we have continued to look at addition and subtraction. Year 4 have been improving on their use of column addition to solve word problems. Year 3s looked at a variety of methods to add and subtract 3 digit numbers and used place value grids and counters, base 10 and their knowledge of place value to help solve their problems.

We have continued to read Street Child in class. We wrote some excellent diary entries as if we were Jim after looking at the features that you expect to find in a diary. We have also been recapping what nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs are, we had lots of fun dancing in our seats to a song all about them! We wrote a scene from a play on Friday taking care to lay out our work like it was a playscript.

In science we continued with our topic of light and shadow and investigated materials which are opaque, translucent and transparent. We made shadow puppets in DT and were very excited to use them, so we have decided to write a playscript and perform a little play with our puppets next week.

This week in PE we had to design an obstacle course for our friends. We mapped our courses out on whiteboards using a key. It was lots of fun.

Homework this week is to log on to Sumdog and complete the times tables challenge set for you, spellings can also be downloaded from the website. Please make sure you continue to read and practise your times tables every day.

Don't forget we are going to the River and Rowing Museum on Monday. Children will need a packed lunch and waterproof coat. Our workshop starts at 10 so please drop your children off between 9.30 and 9.55 latest. Collection from the museum is at 2.45. Many thanks for your help with this, we couldn't do it without you.

Have a great weekend.
