Highmoor week commencing 6th December

Date: 9th Dec 2021 @ 6:47pm

Welcome to another week in Highmoor!

It has been a really busy week on lots of fronts. The children did so well on Wednesday when our visitors were in school. They really showcased what well behaved and polite children and eager learners they are. We are all really proud of them. They also thoroughly enjoyed the Christmas dinner and visit to Santa. It was a lovely experience for them all. Thank you to those of you that were involved in helping to make the day special.

In maths this week we have been looking at tricky word problems and trying to figure out exactly what the question is asking us. We have also continued to look at fractions of amounts.

We have continued studying the poem 'Twas the Night Before Christmas, looking at the language used and answering inference questions about it. We have also written our own verses of a poem based on it but about Christmas Day. The children did a brilliant job writing their own rhyming poems about all sorts of things from the excitement of waking up on Christmas morning, opening presents, the Christmas tree, Christmas dinner. We also read a poem called The Christmas Legend and thought about the similarities and differences between the two poems.

We finished our PSHE topic of teamwork by thinking about the ripple effect and how good or bad behaviour spreads between us. We tried it out by passing on smiles and laughs. It was quite hard to stop laughing once we had started! We thought about how easily we were influenced by each other's actions and how important it was to take responsibility for our own behaviour.

On Thursday we brainstormed our thoughts and understanding around the importance of water in the world for Science. Why do we need it and what would happen if there wasn’t any? We presented our thoughts back to the class on Friday. The presentations were excellent. Very informative and professionally presented! Our water cycle experiments are proving interesting too! Why are we getting such different results?

We had a great time on Monday afternoon watching Greys and Peppard class perform their nativity play. It was lovely to see them perform in the church and we all enjoyed being there as a whole school again.

Friday was extra special for the year 4s as they all got their pen licences. You can see by their smiley faces on the photo how happy and proud they all were to receive them.

Homework is Sumdog and reading, please make sure these are completed with reading being recorded in Home School Diaries.

Have a lovely weekend everyone.
