Highmoor week commencing 8th January

Date: 10th Jan 2019 @ 5:02pm

Happy New Year and welcome back to everyone! We hope you all had a lovely Christmas and enjoyed the break.

Maths for year 4 has been thinking about the meaning of a tenth. We have been multiplying and dividing by 10 to 1 decimal place, rounding decimal numbers to the nearest whole and understanding decimal and fraction forms of tenths. Year 3s have been working with 3 digit numbers - placing them on unmarked number lines, rounding them to the nearest 10 and comparing and ordering them.

Earlier in the week in Literacy we looked at figurative language in poetry. We are also planning to write our own mystery stories. We investigated the different elements that make up mystery stories and thought about how to build tension in our own writing.

This term in geography we have asked ourselves the question - Why do so many people visit the Mediterranean for their holidays? We will be finding out the answer over the next few weeks. We located the Mediterranean on a map and found out exactly what the Mediterranean is.

In art we did still life drawings and thought about  how we can shade our picture to make it look 3D.

In PSHE we thought about how we all have connections to each other. It was really interesting to see how much we all connect as a class and how much overlap there is beween our lives. We passed a ball of string between us to represent the connections and ended up with a complicated web structure. It was lots of fun.

Children have been given 2 pieces of homework this week. The Geography needs to be completed by Friday 18th and the Literacy should be handed in on Wednesday 23rd.
