Highmoor week commencing 8th March

Date: 12th Mar 2021 @ 12:15pm

Welcome back to school! At last!

Firstly we just want to say a huge well done to all children for how they dealt with Zoom teaching over lockdown. We were so impressed with their attitude and levels of engagement. Learning by Zoom is no easy feat and every single child in Highmoor did brilliantly under very difficult circumstances. Thank you to all parents for helping children in the many different ways that you all could.

It has been so lovely to see everyone back in the classroom and playing outside with their friends. The children have coped amazingly well with the return to school and being amongst so many people again.

Monday and Tuesday were spent doing fun activities to help the children adjust to being back in school. We shared our thoughts and feelings about the return to school. We also discussed the important people in our lives and how to show them respect. We thought about what makes a good friend and explored how to resolve conflict when we disagree with each other through drama. We also had lots of fun doing some art activities making Mother's Day cards and objects based on our Magic Box poems we wrote during lockdown.

On Wednesday we returned to our usual lessons. In maths year 3 interpreted data displayed in tables and then moved on to our new topic of length and perimeter. We looked at the relationship between cm and m and converted between the two. Year 4 have continued looking at fractions and this week have been investigating equivalent fractions.

We really enjoyed PE on Wednesday and Thursday which involved lots of team work and of course, lots of mud!

In music we took turns singing in year groups. It was a lovely experience singing with our friends again.

In literacy we continued with the story of The Lion and The Unicorn an wrote setting descriptions of an evacuee's first time seeing the countryside. We also improved boring sentences by adding detail with adjectives, powerful verbs and adverbs and we looked at using apostrophes to show possession.

We finished our week off with an art lesson based on The Lion and The Unicorn. We painted a background and created silhouettes and search lights to represent The Blitz.

As of next week spellings will be taught and tested on Tuesdays. Times tables will be tested on Mondays and Tuesdays. Spelling Shed for weekly spellings and Sumdog for times tables homework will be set every Tuesday.

As usual please don't hesitate to get in touch if you have any concerns or want to chat.

Have a great weekend everyone!
