Peppard Class - 08.02.2019

Date: 7th Feb 2019 @ 4:22pm

Welcome to our week in Peppard Class.

We have been learning about the Chinese New Year festival this week.  We started the week by watching some lovely Cbeebies videos about the festivities. We then read the story called "The Great Race" which was all about the story of the animals who have the different years named after them.  The children all did a story map.

We linked some maths to the story of the Chinese New Year.  The children used different shapes to create a dragon.  They also coloured some Chinese New Year number pictures.  We played a lovely game on the computer which involved ordering numbers on the dragon.

Also in maths, we looked at a variety of different shapes.  We then went on a shape walk around our local environment to find different shapes.  We walked down to the church looking at street signs, windows, doors, etc.

We are practising our phase 3 sounds and tricky words.  Please support your child with their sounds at home.  They should all have a sheet with all the sounds on. We are also practising writing sentences.  By the end of the year we are aiming to:

"Children use their phonic knowledge to write words in ways which match their spoken sounds. They also write some irregular common words. They write simple sentences which can be read by themselves and others. Some words are spelt correctly and others are phonetically plausible."
