Peppard class - 17th January 2020

Date: 14th Jan 2020 @ 8:48pm

Welcome to our week in Peppard class.

In phonics this week, we have learned the new digraphs oa, oo, and ar.

When we read with the children in class, we are encouraging them to spot the digraphs and trigraphs in words rather than trying to sound them out as individual sounds.

We have also been recapping our phase 3 tricky words.

In maths this week, we have been subitising, estimating, and subtracting numbers.  We have been counting up and down from 20 in circle games.

The children have been cooking delicious gingerbread people - luckily none of the gingerbread tried to run away!

We have been rehearsing our story - The Gingerbread man.  We innovated the story and thought about new characters.  The children did some work on adjectives.  We also thought about the setting in the story and created new settings.

It was so exciting on Wednesday. There was a  hail storm after lunch. We made the most of the opportunity to explore hail. The children predicted what would happen once the sun came out and we tested their theory by observing it through the afternoon.

Please join us on Friday 24th January at 9 am to hear the children retell the story of the Gingerbread man.  They will also be sharing their innovated characters and their own invention of the story.

We have really enjoyed observing the children playing and choosing this week.  The conversations and social relationships are very special and we can hear the children embedding their knowledge and learning with their peers.
