Peppard Class - 19th October 2018

Date: 19th Oct 2018 @ 10:37pm

Welcome to our week in Peppard Class

We have had a lovely half term getting to know each other and making new friends.  The children have settled well.  We have enjoyed two trips and we are especially grateful to Lou and Sam for creating a bespoke morning at the farm that enhanced the topic for the children.

This week, we have all made some bread rolls.  The children enjoyed learning about 'Yasmin' yeast and they could see how the yeast works when they created their own bread rolls.

We have been inventing our own version of the story of The Little Red Hen this week.  The children have made some lovely pictures for our own book.  We enjoyed sharing all our work about Harvest and The Little Red Hen with the parents on Thursday.

In maths this week, the children have started to add numbers.  We played some games and sang some songs using addition.  We also used our number knowledge during our choosing time.  Some of the children practised writing their numbers whist others were challenged to hoola hoop whilst counting to a given number.  I also tried but I didn't get above 5!  Mrs Wall made a shop with some of the children and they used their adding skills to sell more than one item to their customers.  We also used the numicon in the playdough and the children are using their mathematical understanding in all areas of our classroom.

Some of the children were very creative outside.  They used crates, bricks and planks to make obstacle courses and some of the children designed and built their own house.

In phonics this week, we have been learning the last tricky words in phase 2 and recapping the phase 2 sounds.  We have played 'cross the phonic crocodile and dinosaur river' which involves reading the tricky words and we have played music phonics where we robot talk actions for the children to do.  We have also beaten our top score in 'beat the bell' which is a letter recognition game.

Please can you recap the sounds and tricky words that we have sent home in your child's book bag.  Short and regular sessions would be best.  If your child is keen then they could practise writing their letters.

Have a wonderful half term.

Reading Raffle

When the children return, we will be starting a new weekly raffle called the Reading Raffle.  All the children who read with you 5 times in a week will get a raffle ticket on Monday and one of them will win a book.  The first raffle will take place on Monday 5th November.
