Peppard class - 20 November 2020

Date: 16th Nov 2020 @ 10:23pm

Welcome to our week in Peppard class.

On Monday, we had a lovely DIwali day.  The children learned about the traditions and the story of Rama and Sita.  We made Diva lamps, Rangoli patterns and listened to some lovely music.  The children decorated their hand print in the style of Mehndi patterns and made a card.  We finished the day by painting firework pictures.

We have finished our work about the Enormous Turnip story this week.  We started by learning the story and doing the actions.  We then innovated the characters and wrote our own version.  I will share it with you when I have put it together.

In maths this week, we have been continuing our work on sorting and matching.  We also read the story - A squash and a squeeze by Julia Donaldson and acted it out whilst writing the number sentences for one more and one less.  We have also been counting to 100.  The prices have gone up in my fruit shop and the children are now mixing coins to find the correct amount.

We enjoyed reading a story that the current year 2's had written and Lily loved seeing her dog in the story.

In phonics this week, we have been learning the digraphs - sh, ch, th and ng.  The tricky words are - she, he, we, be.  The children are starting to write using their phonic knowledge and they are reading captions and sentences accurately.

The children have been very creative when choosing their own activities.  They have been particulary engaged in making towers out of wood bricks to house some animals after we found a tiny snail on the water tray on Monday.
