Peppard Class - 27th September 2019

Date: 27th Sep 2019 @ 2:14pm

Welcome to our week in Peppard class.

We have been very busy learning some new letters and sounds.  We have learned

m, i, n and d.

We have been learning to blend and segment words with these sounds in them.  We have played some games, practised writing these letters on whiteboards and in sand.  We have been making these letters in playdough and reading phonic books.

From next week, your child will be bringing home a reading book and a reading record book.  We would encourage you to find a few minutes away from the television and distractions to read with your child.  The books will match their phonics as much as possible but they will come across unfamiliar words that they might need help with.  Please aim to get a good routine going even if it is only for a few minutes.  Please record what pages they have read so that we can change their books or read with them in class.  We will read with your child as much as possible in school but always on their key child (show and tell) day.  It makes an enormous difference to their progress if they read a little at home.

Please use the following link to refresh yourselves with the phonic sounds - they might be different to how you were taught.

In maths this week, we have been learning about 2.  We looked at how to make number 2 by adding 1 and 1 together.  We looked at the addition and equals signs.  The children looked at 2 on a ten frame, wrote 2, looked at 2 oclock, 2p coins and watched Number blocks.  Some of the children counted in groups of 2.  At the end of the week, we had the story of Noah's ark and made pictures of the animals that went in the ark.

We also all had a turn at a matching game that involved larger numbers and counting.  The idea was to match the number of objects to the correct numeral.

We have been making paintings of dogs to go with our story "The great dog bottom swap".  We are looking forward to hearing the story at Henley literacy festival next week.

We were a little disappointed with the weather this week but also appreciated how the rain water has been needed.  We left a bucket outside over night and measured the rainwater.  There was 750 ml!

The weather did not stop the children from going outside though - please can you remember to bring welly boots for your child as they do go out onto the common.
