Peppard Class - May 17th 2019

Date: 17th May 2019 @ 11:26am

Welcome to our week in Peppard Class.

We would like to invite you to a little end of topic morning next Thursday 23rd May at drop off time.

We have been busy retelling and innovating the story of the Very Hungry caterpillar.  The children all chose a new food that the caterpillar might like to eat.  They wrote a sentence and drew pictures.

In phonics this week, we have been working hard with our phase 4 tricky words.  We will send more words for the children to practise at home in the blue books next week.  Some of the children have been reading polysyllabic words and others have been learning some new alternative sounds to the phase 3 sounds they already know.

In maths this week, we have been learning about doubles and halves.  The children doubled with numbers up to 10 and then challenged their friends using numicon.  We then halved the class and made some different arrays using the children.

During choosing time, we saw some lovely collaboration among some children whilst using a remote control car.  They designed and made a track for it.  We encouraged writing and maths through their chosen interest and observed great sharing and communication.  Obviously, there are a few disputes along the way but the children are developing effective communication to deal with this.

Other children were making habitats for their new friends - the minibeasts.  They thought about what the minibeasts will need to survive and found food and water for them.

We have really enjoyed the weather and each other's company this week, however, I think the children might be tired!
