Peppard class - wb 14th September 2020

Welcome to our week in Peppard class.

We have really enjoyed getting to know each other and the children are making some lovely friendships.  The different narratives and imaginative play that we are observing is highlighting lots of creativity and collaboration.  

In phonics this week we have been learning the new sounds, i,n,m and d.  I have been reading with the children daily and we will send some reading books home soon.  We are just introducing a few more sounds in order to widen the variety of books they can read with you.

In maths, we have been focusing on the number 2.  We have been looking at 2 on the 10 frame, discussing one more and one less and writing addition sentences.  We have looked at 1p and 2p coins.  The children have been doing some sorting and matching.  During choosing time, the children have been using a variety of mathematical resources and challenging themselves.  The skills that we have observed include ordering numbers, matching numbers and counting.  We have been supporting the children in developing their skills at counting larger numbers of objects using the 1-1 principle.  Also in maths, we have used the balancing method to make some cakes.  We enjoyed them for snack time.

We have continued to find out information about dinosaurs.  We have watched Andy's dinosuar adventures, read non fiction books and used the internet to find out more.  We have made a display about our knowledge of dinosaurs.  

We all had a turn at woodwork this week, I was very impressed!  The children created their own ideas, took all the safety considerations seriously and demonstrated great focus.

We read the story of Noah's ark which highlights our value, perseverance.  During choosing time, some of the children enjoyed developing the story and designed a little play.
