Peppard class - Week beginning 07.12.2020

Date: 10th Dec 2020 @ 11:40am

Welcome to our week in Peppard class.

I have really enjoyed filming our song for the Christmas play.  Your children are such a pleasure to be around and I hope they have enjoyed this unusual experience of filming rather than performing live.  Mrs Clinkard is working so hard to put it all together - I cannot wait to see the finished product!

In phonics this week, we have been writing captions, tricky words and our Christmas lists using the phonic sounds we have learned so far.  We have also been revisiting our digraphs and trigraphs with a variety of games including 'feed the alien' and 'tricky word bingo'.  We also learned the new digraph 'oa'.

The children are becoming more confident to try and write and we are thinking about why we might need to write.  Santa's list obviously helps with this!

We have been watching an advent video each day called Thimble the Christmas mouse.  These videos are made by one of my favourite authors for early years training books.

In our maths lessons, we have been practising writing numbers and we have done some maths Christmas activities that revise our different topics from this term.

We have read the story 'Jesus' Christmas party' and learned the story of the nativity.  We have drawn pictures of the stable with the characters from the story.  We then read another version from the children's bible.

We read a story about Kevin the koala and then we looked at the differences and similarities between Christmas in Australia and the UK.  The children chose the features they liked and disliked between the two countries.

We have had our post office out all week and the children have been making cards and creating secret messages.  Please check your shoes! We have also been using a variety of media and material to make our own tree decorations.  We finished the week with some dancing to Michael Buble’s Christmas tunes.

The children have been very creative when choosing. Tiger Benji has a mansion with garage and pool and a camper van. They have also been looking after him when he was ill!
