Peppard class - 05.11.2021

Date: 5th Nov 2021 @ 12:53pm

Welcome to our week in Peppard class.

Mrs Girdler thoroughly enjoyed her first week and the children were so welcoming.  Thank you children.

In phonics this week, we have learned the sounds j and digraphs, zz,ll,ss.

We are now using a new phonics scheme called Little Wandle.  I will upload the sounds and the mnemonics on Tapestry.  Any other changes in line with this scheme will be communicated with you in due course.

In maths we have been learning about 4 and 5 and we have started number bond work.  We read a story about number 5's birthday party which introduced number bonds.  We have been using a variety of different resources.

We have enjoyed reading the story of Stickman which we will be using for our core story over the next few weeks.  We will also be enjoying stories and non fiction books based around the season of Autumn.  We have been on a hunt around the common looking for signs of Autumn.  We are always keen to have conkers for activities if you see any on your travels.

The children have used the daily routine to practise a variety of skills.  They were sitting at the lunch table the other day and I could hear them using their number bond awareness to consider how many children were girls, how many were boys and how many altogether.

We enjoyed an afternoon learning about the festival of Diwali.  We made our own rangoli patterns, diva lamps and mehndi hand prints.  We listened to the story of Rama and Sita.

In choosing time, we have observed the children designing and making a Church.  They talked about their experience of Harvest to help with their design.
