Peppard class - 11th October 2019

Date: 11th Oct 2019 @ 6:59pm

Welcome to our week in Peppard class.

We have learned some new sounds in phonics this week, these are:  c, k, e, u and we have introduced the digraph (2 letters, 1 sound) ck.

We have played lots of games to support the children's learning in phonics including crossing the crocodile river and sound sorting.  We have also practised writing our letters and some cvc words.  We read with the children at least once a week on their key child day.

In maths this week we have been learning all about the number 4.  We have used 1,2,3 and 4 to look at more and less and some of the children have been calculating how may more and less as well as doubling the numbers we have learned so far.  We have played some maths games, ordered numbers and counted to 100 using a variety of movements.

We have read the story The Little Red Hen this week.  We are learning to tell the story with actions.  The children all shared their thoughts about the moral dilemma that the Little red hen faced at the end of the story.  We will be studying this book until half term.  Next week we will be innovating the story by making pizza at Pizza Express.  Hopefully the children will share their pizza with you!

We were very impressed with the children at the Harvest Festival, they were very confident to stand at the front of the church!  The children have been doing harvest activities including sorting different kinds of foods.  We are encouraging the children to choose healthy snacks and talking about the importance of healthy eating.

The children have enjoyed creating and using obstacle courses outside this week.  The buddies have also helped to make a course with lots of different physical elements for the children to develop their gross motor skills.

Most of the children have tried woodwork this week.  They have learned about safety, and tried a range of tools and equipment.

Next week show and tell will be:

Monday - Charlie, Noah, Henry

Tuesday - Barney, Taylor, Elle

Wednesday - Margot, Grace, Max

Thursday - Molly, Talia, Francesca

Friday - Olivia, Holly

Have a lovely weekend.
