Springwood - 19th October

Date: 19th Oct 2018 @ 3:18pm

In Maths this week, we have continued learning about equivalent fractions and begun to compare and order fractions. It was tricky at first to work out how to find equivalent fractions, so we practised multiplying the numerator and the denominator by the same number. This also helped us comparing 2 different fractions.

In Literacy, we finished writing our evacuee stories and practised our proof-reading and editing skills. All the children worked really hard, and many drew inspiration from the Michael Morpurgo story we had read - 'Friend or Foe'. Today, we focused on grammar and had a go constructing our own subordinate clauses sentences. We used the mnemonic I SAW A WABUB to remember the subordinate conjunctions, which we then used in our own sentences. This complex grammar can be hard to get your head around, but all the class did a great job at constructing imaginative and accurate complex sentences.

On Wednesday, all classes split into their teams to paint poppies which will decorate the War Memorial Hall. Oak team were in Springwood classroom. We are very happy with the finished products!

In Science, we learnt about dissolving, and had great fun experimenting with different materials to see if they were soluble. Then children created their own experiments to test how different factors affected the speed of materials dissolving.

Just a small reminder that our first day back will be Tuesday 30th October, and that Springwood will be visiting the Thames Water Education Centre in Didcot on this day.

I hope everyone has a lovely half term.
