Grey's 10 May

Date: 12th May 2024 @ 1:15pm

This short week saw Grey's class continue to investigate the Maths section on Fractions; recognising halves and quarters and finding fractions of amounts.

In spelling, the Year 2's practiced using apostrophes to make contractions and in the coming week, they will  be using apostrophes to demonstrate possession.

In English we had lots of fun discussing and learning the difference between 'fact and opinion'..  Needless to say many of the Greys children were admant that the stattement; ' watermelon is sweet and delicious.' is a fact!

Year 2's learnt about V.E. day which was celebrated this week. They read about  and answered comprehension questions on this very important commemoration.

They began creating 'fact files' and in the coming week will create 'fact files' relating to living things. This is a cross-curricular theme with Science.

In History we completed our section on Florence Nightingale and will be comparing her life and achievements to those of Mary Seacole.

In Art our children designed their own version of the interesting buildings created by the artist/achitect Hundertwasser. They had lots of fun were wonderfully imaginative.

On Friday we had a visit from two gents on their Pennyfathings. The children were enthralled and asked great questions about these beautiful bikes and their fundraising adventure to paris in June.

In R.E we continued reading the story of Joseph and his brothers. We carried on watching the next part of the musical. The class love the music and requested the music be played during their Art lesson on Friday.

In PSHE, Year 2's continued the section on 'Growing up'. This week we discussed being assertive and using the words 'No!' and 'Stop!' Equally important was ensuring that they acknowledge when others mean when they say the same.

Have a good week.
