PE and Sport Premium
PE and Sport Premium for Primary Schools
In 2013, following on from the success of the London 2012 Olympics, the government announced its intention to provide schools with a PE and sport premium designed to help primary schools improve the quality of the PE and sport activities they offer their pupils.
Schools are required to use the funding to improve the quality of the PE and sport activities they offer their pupils, but they are free to choose the best of way using of the money.
Possible uses of the funding include:
- Paying for professional development opportunities in PE/sport
- Buying in specialist sports teachers to run before and after school clubs
- Running sport competitions, or increasing participation in the school games
- Buying quality assured professional development modules or material for PE/sport
- Providing places for pupils on after school sport clubs and residential visits
The money must be used so that:
- all children benefit regardless of sporting ability
- that the most-able children are given the opportunity to compete in advanced tournaments
- that staff have access to training opportunities and continued professional development
At Peppard CE Primary School, we recognise the contribution of PE to the health and well-being of the children. We believe that an innovative, varied PE curriculum and extra-curricular opportunities have a positive influence on the concentration, attitude and academic achievement of all our children. Our Primary School Sport’s Funding has enabled us to continue and extend our provision through employing additional sports professionals, using better facilities and entering into more competitive sports competitions. Through the correct use of the funding, our school achieved the School Games Gold Award.

This academic year 2022-2023.
In 2022 – 2023, we received £16,000 plus an extra £10 per Year 1 – 6 pupil. For us that equates to £17,010. The money can only be spent on sport and PE provision in schools.
The Sports funding this year has been used to:
- support and engage of the least active children through new or additional sports clubs during the school day
- increase the amount of competitive sport in which our children participate (sports partnership buy in)
- purchase equipment to offer access to new sports and physical activities as relevant
This year has been exceptionally difficult with school being unable to provide swimming, indoor PE and only two sports competitions. We will evaluate the impact of the Sports Premium funding using the DfE’s document evidencing the impact of primary PE and Sport Premium.
