Welcome to Springwood Class

Welcome to Springwood Class, home to our fantastic Year 5 and Year 6 children.

Our class teacher is Mrs Parsons.

As the oldest children at Peppard, Springwood pupils play an important part in the life of our school. We encourage children to become confident, independent and responsible learners, to challenge themselves and to persevere when learning becomes difficult.

Alongside achieving their very best academically, we want our children to develop the confidence, character and skills they need for the next stage of their education.

Throughout Years 5 and 6, we encourage children to make connections between their learning, think deeply, explain their ideas and increasingly take responsibility for their own progress.

Learning at Home

Regular practice at home helps children to consolidate their learning, develop fluency and build good habits as they move towards secondary school.

CGP Maths
Children should complete one page of their CGP Maths book each day, Monday to Friday. This will begin in Week 3.

Doodle Maths
Children should complete a short Doodle Maths session each day. Little and often helps to strengthen mathematical fluency and confidence.

Doodle Tables
Regular times-table practice remains important in Years 5 and 6. Children should use Doodle Tables daily or every other day to keep multiplication and division facts secure and automatic.

Reading
Children should continue to read regularly at home. This might be independently, reading with an adult or listening to an adult read.

Even when children are confident readers, sharing and discussing books remains incredibly valuable. Talking about characters, vocabulary, themes and authors' choices helps children to develop the deeper comprehension skills they need as they progress through Key Stage 2.

Ready for the School Day

A few things help us to make sure everyone is organised and ready for a successful day:

• Please bring a named water bottle and reading book every day.
• We continue to make good use of Peppard Common throughout the year.
• During the wetter winter months, the Common can become very muddy, so children should have a pair of wellies or spare trainers in school.
• We encourage Springwood children to take increasing responsibility for their own belongings, homework and equipment as part of developing their independence.

Being the Oldest at Peppard

Being part of Springwood brings additional opportunities and responsibilities.

Our Year 5 and Year 6 children are encouraged to be positive role models for younger pupils, contribute to the wider life of the school and take on opportunities for responsibility and leadership.

We want children to leave Springwood not only proud of what they have achieved, but ready to approach their next adventure with confidence, kindness, respect and perseverance.

Working Together

We really value the partnership between home and school. As children become increasingly independent, communication between families and school remains just as important.
