Welcome to Greys Class

Welcome to Greys Class, home to our fantastic Year 1 and Year 2 children.

Our class teacher is Mrs Elson, with Mrs Fowler and Mrs Cleall supporting our learning throughout the week.

In Greys, we want children to feel happy, confident and excited about learning. We encourage everyone to be curious, have a go, ask questions and persevere when something feels tricky. As children move through Key Stage 1, we help them to develop their independence while making sure they continue to feel safe, supported and valued.

Handwriting
In Key Stage 1, children are carefully supported as they develop fluent and confident handwriting. We teach consistent letter formation and gradually develop the skills children need for joined handwriting.

Learning at Home

A little regular practice at home can make a big difference to children's confidence and fluency.

Doodle Maths
Please complete the 'A Day' task on Doodle Maths. Little and often is the best approach, helping children to practise and consolidate the maths skills they are learning in school.

Reading
Reading is one of the most important things children can practise at home. Please enjoy a book with your child every day – this might involve your child reading to you, sharing the reading together or listening to an adult read.

Please record reading in your child's Reading Record so that we can celebrate and support their reading journey together.

Reading books are changed on either Tuesday or Thursday.

Ready for the School Day

A few things help us to make sure everyone is ready for a great day of learning:

• Please bring a named water bottle and reading books every day.
• We love making use of Peppard Common throughout the year. During the wetter months it can become very muddy, so children should have a pair of wellies or suitable outdoor shoes in school. Our welly rack is located outside the Greys corridor.
• Please make sure that clothing and belongings are clearly named – this makes it much easier for us to reunite lost items with their owners!
