Spirituality

"Encourage one another and build each other up"

(1 Thessalonians 5:11)

At Peppard Church of England Primary School, spirituality is at the heart of who we are. Rooted in our Christian vision and values of Kindness, Respect and Perseverance, we seek to nurture every child and adult so that they can flourish and live life in all its fullness.

We believe spirituality is about helping children develop a deeper understanding of themselves, their relationships with others and the world around them. It is found in moments of awe and wonder, in times of reflection and stillness, in acts of kindness and service, and in the questions we ask about meaning, purpose and belonging.

Spirituality is woven throughout every aspect of school life. It can be seen in our collective worship, curriculum, outdoor learning, Forest School experiences, relationships and community activities. Whether children are exploring the natural beauty of Peppard Common, reflecting on a story, discussing a big question, supporting a charity or showing kindness to a friend, they are developing spiritually.

To support this journey, we use the framework of Windows, Mirrors and Doors.

Windows – Learning About Life

Children are encouraged to look outwards and notice the world around them. Through learning, worship and experiences, they encounter life's "wows" and "ows" – moments that inspire awe and gratitude, as well as moments that challenge us and raise important questions.

Mirrors – Learning From Life

Children are given opportunities to reflect on their experiences, thoughts, feelings and beliefs. Through discussion, prayer, reflection and stillness, they develop a deeper understanding of themselves and others.

Doors – Learning to Live Life

Children are encouraged to respond to what they have experienced and reflected upon. They learn to put their values into action through kindness, respect, perseverance, leadership, service and care for others and the world around them.

At Peppard, spirituality is not something that happens only during Religious Education or Collective Worship. It is part of everyday school life. It is found in learning, friendships, challenges, achievements and moments of reflection. Through our Christian vision, we encourage every member of our community to grow in confidence, compassion and understanding, building one another up and making a positive difference in the world.

"Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing."
1 Thessalonians 5:11
