Welcome to Highmoor Class

Welcome to Highmoor Class, home to our wonderful Year 3 and Year 4 children.

Our class teachers are Mrs Claridge (Monday–Wednesday) and Mrs Griffith (Thursday–Friday). We are also very lucky to have Mrs Hall supporting our learning on Monday, Thursday and Friday, and Mrs Dunn on Tuesday and Wednesday.

In Highmoor, we want children to be happy, curious and confident learners. We encourage everyone to work hard, ask questions, have a go and persevere when things feel challenging. Most importantly, we want every child to feel valued and proud of what they achieve.Our Curriculum

Learning at Home

A little regular practice at home makes a big difference. Our homework is designed to reinforce the skills children are developing in school without becoming overwhelming.

Doodle Maths
Please complete the 'A Day' task on Doodle Maths. Little and often is the key to developing confidence and fluency, and around 15 minutes is ideal.

Reading
We encourage children to enjoy reading every day. This might be independently, reading aloud to an adult or enjoying a book read by an adult. Please record reading in your child's Home School Diary.

Children can change their reading books in the classroom when they arrive at school in the morning.

Times Tables
Times tables are practised regularly in school and are checked each Monday. Your child's current focus table will be recorded in the back of their Home School Diary.

By the end of Year 3, children are expected to know their 2, 3, 4, 5, 8 and 10 times tables, including the related multiplication and division facts.

By the end of Year 4, children are expected to know all multiplication tables up to 12 × 12.

Regular, short practice at home really helps these facts become automatic.

Spellings
Spellings are sent home each Tuesday. Please help your child practise them in whichever way works best for them. We will check their developing spelling knowledge informally on the following.

Ready for the School Day

A few things help us to make sure everyone is ready for a great day of learning:

• Please bring a named water bottle, reading book and Home School Diary every day.
• We spend lots of time outdoors and make good use of Peppard Common. During the wetter months it can become very muddy, so every child should have a pair of wellies or suitable outdoor shoes in school. Our welly rack is outside the classroom near the kitchen.
• PE kits can stay in school and only need to go home when they need washing.

We really value the partnership between home and school. If you have a question or concern about your child's learning, wellbeing or time in Highmoor, please speak to us. Good communication helps us to make sure every child feels supported and able to flourish.
