Highmoor 4th April

Date: 4th Apr 2025 @ 2:27pm

Welcome to the last 3 weeks in Highmoor!

In literacy we have been using our scientific knowledge of the digestive system to create an explanation text which we then turned into an informative poster. We had lots of fun thinking about the best way to make the design eye catching and informative. We moved on to poetry based on the digestive system and wrote kennings describing the stages of digestion . These will be entered into a scientific poetry competition. Fingers crossed we do well!

We have been reading the book 'The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane' and have been loving finding out what the next adventure the china rabbit has and have had lots of meaningful discussions around Edward's growth as he learns to love others and understand his emotions.

In maths we have been continuing to work on fractions and moved on to fractions of amounts. Some of us enjoyed using place value counters and base 10 to help us understand. We have also been working on our times tables knowledge.

Our history topic investigating ancient civilisations and comparing them to ancient Egypt finished by looking in depth at the Shang Dynasty in China. We learnt about the importance of oracle bones and how important they were to archaeologists in unlocking the secrets of the Shang Dynasty.

In science we have been investigating our teeth and discovered which drinks can stain them (& which don’t!) and experimenting to see which toothpaste is the most effective! We moved on to learning about food chains and categorised various organisms into producers, prey and predators.

We have been making the most of the weather to carry on with our sewing and art outside on the common.

DT was great fun designing our slingshot cars and the term was finished on a high with egg rolling in a new location!

Have a lovely Easter everyone.
