Grey's Class 29 April to 3 May

Date: 6th May 2024 @ 3:21pm

29 April to 3 May

We started our week with a special treat. We had a classically trained guitarist demonstrate his incredible skill when he played for the children during their  assembly on Monday.

Fernando Aguera impressed our Peppard school children who are invited to sign up for lessons. Mrs Hilton has more information should you be interested.

Year 1's continue to make great progress in their Little Wandle Phonics and reading. We are so proud of them! Please ensure that your child reads to you daily.

Year 2's spent time learning about words that end in 'tion' this week.  A reminder to parents who have requested spelling lists that the full list of spellings covered in Year 2 is on our Grey's Class information page.

Presently we are in Term 3A Week 4: Contractions.

This week in Maths Grey's class were introduced to Fractions. We identified what 'a half' looks like and went on a 'half' search.  We cut apples and bananas in half. After learning what a half looks like in words and numerical form and learning the phrase ' a fraction of', the children were rewarded with a chocolate cake. They were asked to ice the 'half' line, write a half in numerals and then use sprinkles to decorate a half of the cake. Year 2's also investigated a quarter. Sadly there are no photo's!

Please:

  • continue to practice counting in 2's, 5's and 10's, forwards and backwards with your child .
  • encourage them to do the assignments on Doodle Maths daily to assist in building a solid foundation and in the consolidation of knowledge in this vitally important section on Fractions.

In English the children watched a cartoon clip called 'Catchit'. They had to write a diary entry in the first person as one of the characters in the clip to retell the story. They did this really well and were encouraged to edit with greater care. They also had their partner read through their entry to assist in the editing process.

In Religious Education we continue to explore Old Testament stories and this week, the children were introduced to Joseph, son of Jacob. We read a third of the story and then Grey's children were treated to the first bit of the musical 'Joseph and his Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat.'  Of course this drama  and music- mad class adored the music and we look forward to part two in the coming week.

In PSHE the Year 1's began the section about 'My Body'. Mrs Fowler inroduced this section while I began the section on 'Growing Up' with the Year 2's. Each child was given a Learning Journey to fill in throughout this section. They have already written down what they know and a few questions they would like to ask regarding growing up.

In Computers the children began planning their photo story. They will have to take a series of photos that tell a story, using our school iPads. This section will teach them some basic photo editing skills.

After assembly was held in our Grey's Classroom on Thursday, Mr Steele guided the Year 2's minimally, to return our desks and chairs to the way they are supposed to be.  They did this calmly using their initiative and collaboration. We were so impressed with how well they took this direction, worked together and quickly returned the room to its former state. Well done Year 2's.

To remember this week:

Tuesday : Tennis lessons

Wednesday: Kennylands Gym

Thursday : Class Photos:  Please ensure your child is in full summer uniform and that their hair is neat and tidy.

Have a great short week.
