Living Rainforest

On Monday we went on the most amazing trip to the Living Rainforest in Hampstead Norreys. First, our class was divided into two groups. Then we were taken on tours around the two glasshouses by two incredibly interesting guides. We visited Harry, the six banded armadillo, and were fortunate to see Cinnamon, the two-toed sloth having a morning nap high up in a tree. The guides explained how the various plants and animals have adapted to living in such wet and humid conditions. There was time to play on the playground after our morning snack, and then we went back into the glasshouses for one last look at the fascinating plants and animals of the rainforest. Thank you to Mrs Griffith and Mrs Wade for driving the buses.

Literacy

As we have been learning about the Amazon Rainforest in Geography, we were asked to imagine that we were on board an airplane that had crashed in the Amazon. As a class we watched some video clips of the Amazon rainforest and learnt about some survival techniques. After that, we wrote down our own list of instructions on how to survive (and hopefully be rescued) in the Amazon. This activity really made us think creatively.

P.E.

P.E. is always a lot of fun. On Monday we put our strategising skills into practice when we played "Capture the Flag" out on the Common. We formed three teams and exhausted ourselves trying to capture the other teams' flags, as well as defend our own. Today, we spent an hour at the Henley Leisure Centre swimming pool. We all managed to swim independently or with the help of swimming aids across the 25 metre pool.
