Enrichment
Our Vision for Enrichment
At Peppard Church of England Primary School, we believe that every child deserves an education filled with exciting experiences, new discoveries and opportunities to flourish.
Our Christian vision, "Encourage one another and build each other up" (1 Thessalonians 5:11), is at the heart of everything we do.
We are incredibly proud of the rich and varied enrichment opportunities available to our children. From Forest School adventures on Peppard Common to performing on stage, representing the school in sporting competitions, visiting exciting places and making a difference in our community, we want every child to experience the joy of learning beyond the classroom.
Enrichment is not simply an extra at Peppard. It is an important part of school life, helping children develop confidence, independence, resilience, creativity, friendships and a sense of belonging.
Our aim is simple: every child should have the opportunity to discover their talents, explore their interests, embrace new challenges and create wonderful memories.
Our Five Areas of Enrichment
Our enrichment programme is planned around the five areas identified in the Department for Education's Enrichment Framework.
1. Civic Engagement – Making a Difference
We encourage our children to understand that they have a voice and can make a positive difference to the world around them.
Through School Council, pupil leadership, charity fundraising, environmental projects and community activities, children learn about responsibility, democracy, compassion and helping others.
Our links with All Saints Church and the wider community provide meaningful opportunities for children to live out our Christian values of Kindness, Respect and Perseverance.
Our opportunities include: School Council, House Captains, worship leaders, charity events, courageous advocacy, community celebrations and environmental initiatives.
2. Arts and Culture – Discovering Creativity
Creativity is an important part of life at Peppard. We want every child to experience the excitement of music, drama, art, literature and performance.
Our children enjoy opportunities to sing, perform, create and explore different cultural experiences.
From our youngest children performing in the Nativity to older pupils participating in Young Voices, we celebrate the confidence, teamwork and sense of achievement that the arts inspire.
Our opportunities include: Young Voices, choir, musical performances, school productions, Henley Literary Festival, theatre experiences, visiting artists, music tuition and creative clubs.
3. Nature, Outdoors and Adventure – Exploring Our World
Our beautiful rural surroundings provide exceptional opportunities for outdoor learning.
Peppard Common is an extension of our classroom, allowing children to explore nature, investigate the environment, develop practical skills and enjoy the benefits of learning outdoors.
Forest School is a valued part of our provision, encouraging curiosity, problem-solving, teamwork, resilience and independence.
As children progress through school, they also benefit from educational visits and opportunities for greater challenge and adventure.
Our opportunities include: Forest School, Peppard Common, environmental investigations, gardening, biodiversity activities, Earth Trust visits, nature studies and residential experiences such as Kilve Court.
4. Sport and Physical Activity – Being Active Together
We believe every child should experience the enjoyment of physical activity, whether discovering a new sport, developing an existing talent or representing their school.
Our sporting opportunities help children build confidence, perseverance, teamwork, resilience and sportsmanship.
We celebrate participation and personal improvement just as much as sporting success.
Our opportunities include: swimming, gymnastics, tennis, football, netball, athletics, rugby, Sports Day, Bikeability, local competitions and inter-school sporting events.
5. Wider Life and Future Skills – Preparing for Tomorrow
Enrichment helps our children develop the practical skills, confidence and aspirations they will need throughout their lives.
We encourage children to be curious about the world, explore different careers, solve problems and develop independence.
Our popular Big Me Day provides opportunities for children to learn about different professions, meet visitors and begin imagining the exciting possibilities for their futures.
Our opportunities include: Big Me Day, Cooking Club, Money Matters, STEM activities, practical life skills, enterprise experiences, educational visitors and leadership opportunities.
Enrichment Throughout the School
Our enrichment programme begins in Reception and develops as children progress through Peppard.
Peppard Class – Reception
Our youngest learners enjoy discovering the world through outdoor adventures, Forest School, local visits, visitors, celebrations and hands-on experiences. These opportunities nurture curiosity, confidence and independence.
Greys Class – Years 1 and 2
Children build on their early experiences through nature studies, creative activities, community involvement, educational visits and opportunities to develop responsibility and teamwork.
Highmoor Class – Years 3 and 4
Children enjoy an increasingly broad range of experiences, including sporting competitions, cultural visits, environmental learning, musical performances and opportunities to explore new interests.
Springwood Class – Years 5 and 6
Our oldest children are encouraged to embrace greater independence, leadership and responsibility. Residential experiences, sporting opportunities, performances, peer mentoring and preparation for secondary school help them develop confidence and resilience.
Our Whole-School Enrichment Map 2026–2028 sets out the opportunities planned across each year group, ensuring that children experience a broad and progressive programme throughout their time at Peppard.
My Enrichment Passport – Celebrating Every Experience
At Peppard, we believe that enrichment is about much more than simply taking part. It is about recognising what children have learned, how they have grown and what they would like to explore next.
We are introducing My Enrichment Passport, a child-friendly way for pupils to record and reflect on their experiences.
Children are encouraged to think about:
Their favourite experiences.
Something they feel proud of.
What they have learned.
The skills they have developed.
What they would like to try next.
The passports help children recognise when they have demonstrated confidence, teamwork, perseverance, leadership, kindness and curiosity.
For older children, there are opportunities for deeper reflection on how their experiences have helped them grow as individuals.
Every experience matters, and every achievement deserves to be celebrated.
Making Sure Every Child Can Take Part
We are committed to ensuring that enrichment is inclusive, accessible and meaningful for every child.
We recognise that children have different interests, abilities, needs and circumstances. Our responsibility is to help remove barriers so that everyone has opportunities to participate and succeed.
Our approach includes adapting activities, providing additional support where needed, considering financial barriers and offering a variety of experiences during the school day as well as through extracurricular activities.
We are developing a whole-school participation record to help us understand which opportunities children are accessing across the five enrichment areas.
This will help us identify children who may be missing out and plan additional opportunities or support.
Our ambition is for every child to experience all five areas of enrichment during each academic year, with opportunities tailored appropriately to their age and needs.
Pupil Leadership – Every Voice Matters
At Peppard, children are encouraged to take responsibility, share ideas and contribute positively to school life.
Leadership opportunities include School Council, House Captains, sports leaders, worship leaders, reading buddies, librarians and environmental responsibilities.
These roles allow children to develop communication, teamwork, organisation and decision-making skills.
We also want children to help shape our enrichment programme. Through pupil voice, surveys and discussions, we listen to their ideas about the experiences they enjoy and what they would like to try in the future.
Our Community – Learning Together
Our school is fortunate to benefit from strong relationships with local organisations, volunteers, families and community partners.
These partnerships enrich children's learning and help them develop a deeper understanding of the world around them.
Our links include All Saints Church, Peppard Common, local sports organisations, Henley Literary Festival, Kenton Theatre, universities, emergency services, environmental organisations and community groups.
We are especially grateful to parents, carers and community volunteers who generously share their time, expertise and experiences with our children.
Together, we can offer opportunities that extend far beyond the school gates.
Celebrating Achievement and Personal Growth
At Peppard, success is not only measured through academic achievement.
We celebrate children who show courage by trying something new, perseverance when facing a challenge, kindness towards others, creativity in their thinking and pride in their achievements.
We share these special moments through assemblies, class newsletters, school celebrations and our enrichment passports.
We also listen carefully to children's reflections and experiences so that we can understand the difference enrichment is making.
Our school leaders and governors regularly review our provision, ensuring that opportunities continue to develop and remain accessible to all.
Looking Ahead – Our Enrichment Priorities for 2026–2027
Although Peppard already provides a wide range of enrichment opportunities, we are continually looking for ways to strengthen our provision.
Our priorities this year include:
Introducing and embedding our Enrichment Passports.
Developing our whole-school participation record.
Ensuring every child can access experiences across all five enrichment categories.
Strengthening pupil voice and leadership opportunities.
Building on our existing community partnerships.
Celebrating participation, achievement and personal development.
Evaluating the impact of enrichment and using what we learn to plan future opportunities.
We are proud of what we already offer and excited about the opportunities still to come.
Be Involved. Be Inspired. Belong.
At Peppard Church of England Primary School, we want every child to look back on their school years with wonderful memories, lasting friendships, new skills and the confidence to embrace future opportunities.
We believe that every child has something special to offer, every experience provides an opportunity to grow, and every child deserves the chance to shine.
"Encourage one another and build each other up."
